About The Coffee

Nestled on a plateau at the base of Mount Kerinci in Sumatra, the Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative is home to 320 members. Mount Kerinci, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, has a storied history of eruptions, enriching the surrounding land with fertile volcanic soil. Managed by Triyono, the cooperative boasts a state-of-the-art roasting facility and cupping lab, a remarkable achievement since its inception in mid-2017.

Sales from this coffee support Sucafina Farmgate Initiative, empowering local farmers and communities. With small farms averaging 0.5 to 2.5 hectares, coffee cultivation remains a vital source of income alongside intercropped produce.

The Region

Sourced from the Koerintji Barokah Bersama Cooperative, nestled at the foot of Mount Kerinci, this coffee reflects the rich volcanic soil of the region. Managed by Triyono, the cooperative pioneers diverse processing methods, adding to Indonesia's coffee heritage.

The Process

While the specialty market may have overlooked Indonesian coffees in recent years, Sucafina's innovative supply chain ensures that you can now enjoy high-quality beans from the country's unique regions. We take pride in offering coffees accompanied by detailed traceability information, allowing you to truly connect with the origins of your brew.

Indonesia's coffee story is deeply intertwined with its famed wet hulling process, known as "giling basah." While its exact origins remain unclear, wet hulling likely emerged in Aceh during the late 1970s. This method gained popularity due to producers' need for prompt payments and the lack of drying infrastructure, especially in regions like Sumatra where high humidity and unpredictable rainfall make traditional drying methods challenging.

Experience the distinct flavours and history of Indonesian coffee as we bring you beans cultivated in the face of unique environmental challenges and crafted with generations of expertise.
